Ride, hike or drive. Wear your cycling kit for another Historic Event and Group Photo. The Bike Turnouts are dedicated to Joe Shami "Legend of Mount Diablo."
ALL of the money raised ($755,793.48) will go for Bike Turnouts! There will be 9 Bike Turnouts constructed on Southgate Rd, 4 on Summit Rd, and 9 on Northgate Rd. For a total of 67 Bike Turnouts on Mount Diablo!

In Memoriam Karen Kaiser
Sadness and accolades have poured out since Karen Kaiser, Board member and the most helpful cyclist extraordinaire, died on Tuesday, February 27th. Karen did a lot for Valley Spokesmen. For years, she organized and led many of the Monday and Wednesday Heather Farm rides, as well as leading multiple bike trips (San Diego, Tucson, British Columbia, Erie Canal). She was an organizer for the Mt. Diablo Challenge and served on the Valley Spokesmen Board of Directors.
A memorial ride in honor of Karen is planned for Monday, May 6th at 9 am from Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 399 Wiget Lane, Walnut Creek. A celebration of her life will follow with pizza and drinks (suggested donation $5) on the church patio with time for friends to share tributes to Karen.

The Valley Spokesmen Bicycle Club was founded in August, 1971. Membership has grown from 81 active members in 1972 to ~500 card-carrying members presently. Most of the group are young to middle-aged adults, both married and single, but member ages range from infant family members to active riders in their 80's. We are affiliated with these organizations:

 Feather Pedals is a no-cost, volunteer cycling group within Valley Spokesmen that organizes conditioning rides for women preparing for Cinderella and social monthly rides. Both women and men are welcome to join all rides. Check the ride calendar for Feather Pedal "friendly" rides. |
